Kitten’s Nutritional Needs

by benergic

Growth is the most important phase in a cat’s life and the impact of nutrition on their growth is crucial. A kitten is not an adult, the composition and texture of its food must be adapted to its age.

At 10 weeks, the kitten needs 3.5 times more energy per kg  more than an adult cat.

The growth of the kitten consists of 2 phases-

  •  From birth to 4 months
  •  4 to 12 months

This period is very intense and particularly delicate because although it is growing rapidly, its digestive system is still immature. His digestive system is developing little by little but remains fragile. During the first 5 months, it is not ready to assimilate a large amount of food and cannot digest starch. Its food must provide it not only with energy but also all the nutrients necessary to build and maintain its bones, muscles and organs. This food must therefore be very digestible in order to be perfectly well absorbed by the body and to contribute to harmonious growth.

During the first 12 weeks, the antibodies transmitted by the cat decrease and become insufficient. A kitten fed with growth food (containing vitamins E and C, taurine, lutein, etc.) has a better post-vaccination immune response. .
